Here at ICEtags HQ we do believe passionately that you should take every care to ensure that, in the unfortunate event of an accident, that you can be identified easily and quickly and that your next of kin can be identified and contacted quickly. Did you know that it takes on average 8 hours for the emergency services to identify an individual without any form of ID on them – now that is a terribly bad way of using the already stretched resources of the emergency services.
In Case of Emergency - How Your Smartphone Can Save Your Life
We create ICEtags (In Case of Emergency tags – containing the details the wearer would want to communicate to the emergency services) for lots of different uses including running club membership ID doubling up as ICEtags, barcoded tags for runners enjoying organised runs in the parks of the UK, medical tags for those with specific medical conditions as well as secure children’s tags to enable them to be easily identified if they are lost.
However, most people agree that two forms of ‘I.C.E.’ are better than one, in case one gets lost or becomes detached or is forgotten. Therefore it’s great that there are some handy (and free) ways of adding this information to your smart phone that can be accessed even when the phone is locked.
If you have an iPhone with IOS 8 or above then you have the new Health app pre-installed on your phone which can be used to track your exercise and physical condition but it can also be used to create your Medical ID which can be viewed even when your phone is locked. You can add information such as your photo, DOB, medical conditions, allergies, medications, emergency contacts, blood type, and even details of organ donor status.
To add your medical ID, simply open up the health app, click on Medical ID in the bottom right corner and then fill in the required details – it really is as simple as that!
For android phones that may not have such an app installed, there is still a very quick and easy solution using any photo editing app on your phone. Simply choose an image you’d like to have as your ‘lock screen image’ and edit it to add text – adding any information you’d like to be communicated in case of emergency. Then just save the image and activate it as your lock screen image.
However, sometimes technology can let you down – you might go out without your phone, on a run or cycle for example, the batteries can die or the phone can be broken or lost so we still think it’s a great idea to have an ICEtag too – just in case!
